Sabetha says that before Shades' Hill she was "protected." What does she mean? Do you think it will impact to the overall story?

I don't know if it's going to necessarily impact the overall story, but it definitely would give clues about what Patience told her.

I thought it just meant that before Shades' Hill she was protected by her parents. I think what happened to her parents might be interesting, but I don't know how much it will impact her story. It depends on what happened to them. I can't remember if it was specifically mentioned in the book or not.

I was wondering – why was faking Sabetha's death necessary? Was it for the benefit of the other oprhans, or? Because in Lies Chains does pretty much say Sabetha was purchased the same as the others?

I was playing with the thought that everyone who might have seen the bloodhaired girl (like Locke) would think she's dead rather than risk them somehow, in whatever way, tipping off slavers to her existence, but it's not like Sabetha tried to remain hidden. She kept using the same name and she had old Shades' Hill friends help her compete against Locke. I can't see how it could be a lie meant to be maintained, at any rate.
